Photo Of the Month Sept 2012: Eurobike.

The annual Eurobike show came and went in September with me covering the show for MBUK and What Mountain Bike mags. As usual the art ed’ wanted something that captured the leading trend of the show, and we decided to feature the new 650b wheel standard that’s evolving in the industry as the opening spread shot. Right then, all I got to do is make it look visually appealing. If you have ever tried to get impactual images at a trade show then you’ll know this isn’t always the easiest task. Just getting the bikes off the boring, harshly lit trade stands can be a ball-ache (as this brilliant account by Ric at MBUK, of us trying to shoot the new Yeti SB66 at last years show testifies). Luckily the guys at Scott were obliging and let us whip their new Genius 650 off the stand and take it outside in the pouring rain, where I set up lights and dutifully lay down in a puddle to get the reflection I wanted (framing the bike to allow the art ed to lay up all sorts of text and titles around the spread as is their want).

Scott’s Joe Higgins was there to lend a hand and snap this shot of me getting wet in all the wrong ways. And yes, it is a tank top. What else do you wear to Eurobike?
